Shot Blasting

Phoenix Hydraulics has made a significant investment in our engineering department, with a purpose-built, 40ft shot blasting container that allows us to clean the large metal surfaces on our fabrications.

Using a stainless-steel medium, we specialise in the blasting of aluminium and stainless steels. Our blasting container is fully approved and meets all COSSH, health and safety and environmental regulations.

With both an automatic loading and shot reclaim system, this incredibly efficient solution quickly removes surface contaminants, without chemically altering the fabrication. Surface finishes can be as smooth as a final product, or rough to help paint to adhere.

As the most effective process for the removal of undesired layers or coatings, it is used in almost every industry that uses metal including automotive, aerospace, construction, shipbuilding, foundry, rail and many more.

Major rail companies use it in the regular maintenance of trains and tracks, and the aerospace industry uses it in a similar way – for maintenance, cleaning and the general upkeep of equipment.

The primary uses for shot blasting on steel surfaces are on offshore platforms, ship decks, ro-ro bridges, steel plates, ferries, steel storage tanks and footbridges - applications can apply to both horizontal and vertical surfaces.

All kinds of automobiles can be restored. The motor's individual components can be shot blasted to prepare them for powder coating, for repairs, or as part of their general maintenance. Vintage car parts can utilise the process to help remove rust or old paint, in preparation for renovation. It can also be used for the maintenance and repair of modern motors where rust has built up.

Shot blasting eliminates the need for non-eco-friendly, harsh chemicals and also provides better blast pattern accuracy and wider abrasive selection. The finished surface is completely free from chemical deposits and dust content, without removing any virgin metal when removing scales.

It has emerged as one of the most efficient and cost-effective techniques for surface preparation prior to processes such as galvanising, welding, electroplating, glass coating, enamelling and rubberising.
